Michelle Lazarus - Counsellor
Dip. Couns.; CertIV Bus. Admin MACA
Michelle is a qualified and registered Counsellor with Australian Counselling Association.
Michelle started her working life many years ago in administration, gradually moving into a career in the Mental Health Sector. Her passionate and empathetic nature helped her continue to grow in different sectors ranging from Financial Planning to Human Resources.
Michelle’s empathy has helped her forge a successful career as a counsellor; she has had her own personal experience to draw upon when dealing with trying situations for her clients in her practice.
Growing up Michelle experienced life with a family member suffering from mental illness. Her Father, a Vietnam Veteran, was diagnosed with PTSD. It was this experience that inspired Michelle to study counselling. After visiting the Vietnam Veterans Counselling Service, Michelle felt that with the right training what she had learned on her own journey would be worth sharing.
Michelle also volunteers with The Smith Family’s iTrack Mentoring Program. Michelle continues to study, attending and participating in professional development sessions to stay abreast of changes in the industry.
She truly understands the importance of empathy and understanding, in building a good working alliance with her clients and being flexible and down to earth.
Michelle utilises a variety of evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy. Michelle also uses the Gottman Method for Couples Therapy.
